Vision

Where there is no vision, the people perish. – Proverbs 29:18

Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. – Habakkuk 2:2

A few things I’ve learned about vision:

Without a vision, you go back to your past. (Judas)
Vision keeps you young. (Abraham)
You need to wear the restraint of that vision.
You need to write your vision down.
Vision needs to be CLEAR.
Vision has an end in mind.

The only miracle Jesus had to pray for twice was for a man’s VISION to be restored.

Nehemiah was a visionary leader.

Things I’ve learned about vision from the story of Nehemiah:

1) All vision starts with a burden.

Even a godless king resourced Nehemiah’s vision because his burden was so great.
If there is a LACK of resource to back your vision, tell the burden better.

2) Vision requires a team.

Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work. – Nehemiah 2:18

3) Vision will face ridicule and opposition.

Now when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry and greatly enraged, and he jeered at the Jews. – Nehemiah 4:1
Pastors have to learn how to live life OPPOSED without becoming a victim.

4) Vision requires more effort at the halfway point.

So we built the wall. And all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work. And they all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and to cause confusion in it. At that time the Jews who lived near them came from all directions and said to us ten times, “You must return to us.” – Nehemiah 4:6, 8, 1
The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. – Ecclesiastes 7:8

5) Vision requires multitasking skills.

Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other. – Nehemiah 4:17

6) Vision requires an awareness of your weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

Then I said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “The work is extensive and spread out, and we are widely separated from each other along the wall. Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us!” – Nehemiah 4:19-20
Our greatest strength is an awareness of our weaknesses.

7) Vision requires no compromise.

Nehemiah 5

8) Vision requires a refusal to be distracted.

When word came to Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab and the rest of our enemies that I had rebuilt the wall and not a gap was left in it—though up to that time I had not set the doors in the gates— Sanballat and Geshem sent me this message: “Come, let us meet together in one of the villages on the plain of Ono.” But they were scheming to harm me; so I sent messengers to them with this reply: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?” Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them the same answer. – Nehemiah 6:1-4
Don’t give your enemy attention!

9) Vision requires attention to detail.

The whole company numbered 42,360, besides their 7,337 male and female slaves; and they also had 245 male and female singers. – Nehemiah 7:66
Visionaries can pay attention to the details.
