In Session Four, Leadership Expert and Best-Selling Author of Retire Inspired, Chris Hogan, taught on, “The Art of Coaching” and we want to share five of the ten essential qualities of a great coach he listed.

5 (of 10) Essential Qualities of A Great Coach

  1. Clear and Direct

    • Your team needs to understand what you are trying to accomplish.

    • Set clear expectations.

  2. Relationship Builder

    • Knowing each team member on a personal level builds trust.

    • Understand your team well enough to be able to spot when something is wrong.

  3. Caring Heart

    • Value and care for your team and they will shut the team down; too much grace and they’ll never learn to improve.

  4. Good Character

    • Having “good character” means doing the right thing, no matter the cost.

    • Your team is always watching you, whether you’re on or off the field.

  5. Knows One Size Does Not Fit All

    • Fair does not mean equal; every team member can’t be treated the same.

    • Your duty is to do what’s in the best interest of the team.
